9 Places to Enjoy Pancake Day 2023 in Manchester

Whether you prefer fluffy buttermilk pancakes drizzled with maple syrup or classic French crêpes loaded with chopped strawberries, there’s something for everyone when it comes to Pancake Day. No stack is too tall, no pancake is too thick and no topping is too bizarre (unless it’s Marmite… that’s always debatable).

This year’s Pancake Day takes place on Tuesday, Feb 21 2023 — a day when around 52 million eggs will be cracked and 117 million pancakes will be tossed and eaten in the UK alone. Also known as Shrove Tuesday, Pancake Day takes place before the start of Lent and was established as a means to use up ‘forbidden’ Lent foods such as eggs, flour, sugar and fat. For a simple batter, it sure does taste good!

If your pancake-flipping skills need some work, then save yourself the mess and choose from our favourite spots in Manchester to savour an Instagrammable pancake stack.

For the Sweet-toothed

Moose Coffee

Founded in 2006, this much-loved city centre favourite is inspired by American diners and the almighty breakfasts of New York. If you’re looking for a thick pancake stack with all of the trimmings, then this is the place to go to fill your belly. Think homemade salted caramel, cinnamon-spiced apple and Canadian maple syrup pancakes. Mmm.

The Botanist and The Oast House

The reason we’ve combined these two delights together is simple — both The Botanist and The Oast House are owned by NWTC (The New World Trading Company) and will be serving a unique Pancake Hanging Kebab this Pancake Day. Available for one day only, pancake revellers can choose from a gooey chocolate brownie kebab or a sweet strawberry and marshmallow kebab with lemon drizzle sauce.

The Garden

Although The Garden is further out of the city centre, it’s worth making the short trip to Hale on the 5th to savour their sumptuous Pancake Platter. Designed for two people (or one if you’re feeling extra peckish), this vegan platter can be ordered either sweet or savoury and is a much healthier alternative to the Nutella crêpes so many of us will be tempted by. As an organic cafe focused on serving Earth-friendly food, The Garden is also offering a free revitalising ginger shot for the first five platter orders.
