When walking through Manchester city centre during the early morning commute, it’s easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle and keep our eyes on the pavement rather than the surrounding architecture. Yet, if you take a moment to look around, you’ll see just how vast Manchester’s architectural heritage really is, with former warehouses and captivating historic buildings around every corner. Each one of our luxury apartments to rent in Manchester city centre is within walking distance of the beautiful buildings below…
Discover Manchester’s iconic buildings with your own city centre apartment to rent!
London Road fire station in Manchester has sat largely vacant for the past 40 years and has been completely closed off to the public, but from 2019, you will be able to visit and appreciate the beauty of this building from the inside as well as the outside!
The building originally opened in 1906, when it housed a bank, ambulance station and coroner’s court. Now, the Grade II-listed building is finally being given a purpose again, with plans to convert it into the likes of a luxury hotel, apartments, restaurants and a cinema.
The Principal Hotel, Oxford Street, Manchester
One of our most favourite transformations of all can be seen from the windows of our Oxford Street headquarters and has quickly become our most frequented lunch spot. Originally opened as the Refuge Assurance offices in 1895, the grand Principal Hotel (and its accompanying restaurant The Refuge by Volta) has been through a number of changes throughout the years.
Many may remember it as the Palace Hotel – and some as the Charterhouse Hotel – but despite all of its alterations, the building has never lost its Victorian charm. Even after an extensive £25 million renovation, The Principal still boasts many of its original features, including terracotta surfaces, marble pillars and glazed brick walls.
Many of our city centre apartments to rent are within walking distance of London Road fire station, including our Grade II listed Basil House property. Located on Portland Street in Manchester, its brand new one and two bedroom apartments to rent are perfect for exploring the city. Once a stately ‘palazzo’ warehouse, it has been beautifully restored into apartments that we want to live in ourselves!
Manchester Town Hall
One renovation that has got people talking a lot recently is the one taking place on Manchester’s Town Hall. During the next six years, essential renovation works will take place to restore and rejuvenate this beautiful Victorian building. Although the temporary closure of the Town Hall has upset a number of Mancunians (and quite understandably so), the pros far outweigh the cons when it comes to preserving this important part of our city’s history.
Preserving history is something that our parent company, Beech Holdings, is largely recognised for and we’re extremely proud to be a part of it. Many of our apartment buildings once sat vacant for years and years… each with their own stories to tell, but with a lack of purpose for the present day. Now, these buildings serve as homes for Manchester’s growing population of young professionals and students, without any of their original character being lost.
Did you know? Our 121 Princess Street property, which still has several studio apartments to rent remaining, was once a textile warehouse in the early 1900s and sits in the Whitworth Street Conservation Area. In fact, the majority of our apartments are contained within former warehouses, often dating back to the late 1800s. These buildings naturally boast all of the features that are so often desired from a modern-day apartment – large, ornate windows, striking brickwork and exposed beams and pillars. Rather than starting from scratch, we take these desirable features and combine them with the ultra-modern, resulting in a smart city living experience quite unlike any other in the city.
