Manchester in March – a Student's Guide

In a city as big and as exciting as Manchester, you can guarantee that there’s always something going on. Whether it’s an offer at a local eatery, a new vintage pop-up shop, or an exhibit to explore and get lost in, there’s always something for everyone to enjoy. This month is no different, so we’ve put together a range of options to check out in your downtime – here are some of our favourite ideas.

Quartet

A series of four exhibitions forming the Manchester School of Art’s Degree Show, this is the perfect opportunity to go and have a look at some of the stunning work that students from the classes of both 2020 and 2021 have created.

Located in the Holden Gallery at MMU, the School of Art’s Degree Show is usually held annually, but this year, the exhibition is showing work from students that graduated in both 2020 and 2021 – adding to the already great mass of art on display. Quartet is split into four main disciplines: Art, Media, Architecture, and Design, and is running until 8th May. Whether you pop in between lectures for a look around or want to spend a day really exploring the depths of the pieces, we’d highly recommend checking this exhibition out and admiring the skill of all those involved.

Astronomy Photographer of the Year

Held annually in partnership with Royal Observatory Greenwich, the Astronomy Photographer of the Year exhibition will be hosted at the Jodrell Bank Discovery just outside of Manchester - displaying an incredible selection of the breathtaking winning entries in the centre’s Exhibition Pathway, as well as an indoor display held in the Space Pavilion.

Perfect for anyone interested in astrology or simply just an admirer of the sky, this event runs until 3rd April and is definitely an event not to be missed.

Careers Seminar

A fantastic opportunity for students wanting to learn more about career progression as well as those interested in education, this careers seminar will welcome Sarah Jones, a Headteacher from Prestwich, to talk about her personal experiences in starting and developing a career within teaching and offer tips and tricks for paving your own career. After teaching for over 25 years in schools and local authorities across the UK, France, China, and Pakistan, Sarah will provide plenty of expertise and knowledge to the audience and to those looking to go into teaching.

Held on 22nd March in the Faculty of Humanities, this will be a genuinely insightful talk to check out, so make sure you head over to the MMU website to book tickets.
