Spring has Sprung: 5 Things to Look Forward to This March

The first official day of spring may not be until 20th March, but we’re already loving the lighter nights and warmer temperatures reaching double figures. We’ve all been awaiting spring’s arrival, so to celebrate, we’ve put together a few things you can look forward to this season.

Here Comes the Sun

The clocks spring forward on the 28th March and we couldn’t care less about losing an hour in bed. Those extra light evenings spent sitting outside, with your beverage of choice (cocktail options below…) are what we’ve been living for throughout winter.

Spruce Up Your Space

It’s fair to say we’ve all been spending a lot of time at home over the past year, which has made it hard to separate where you work, from where you usually chill on the sofa. It’s also been nearly impossible to keep everything looking spick and span, let alone consider any home improvements you might like to make, so why not spruce up your space with this interior life hack?

For a little pick-me-up, try to spread as much light around your space as possible. It really does lift your mood and make the space feel bigger, so here are a couple of simple hacks to help you do it. If your home layout allows, position a floor standing mirror opposite a window. You’ll be surprised how much difference this makes and means you can enjoy every moment of glorious sunshine during those longer days. If you’re more strapped for space, you’ll get the same result by standing a mirror on a set of drawers or a side table opposite the biggest window in your home. An instant mood lifter and interior upgrader.

Also, just in case you need a little Marie Kondo inspo, we wrote a post on apartment cleaning tips containing all you need to know about doing a spring clean. You’re welcome.

St Patricks Day Celebrations

Good old St Paddy’s Day is here to lift our spirits, and perhaps provide an excuse to drink a few as well. You might not be able to celebrate the old-fashioned way, but all the more reason to get on Zoom, don your favourite green outfit and hold a virtual party. Here are some of our favourite cocktail ideas you can simultaneously make and enjoy together. Cheers.

Irish Buck

A classic for a reason, this zingy cocktail is one for everybody. In a long glass combine 35ml of Irish Whiskey, 5ml of lime juice and 50ml of ginger ale over ice, and garnish with a wheel of lime.

The Irish Fairy

If a mocktail is more your vibe, then this fruity option is just for you. In a tall glass, over ice, combine 30ml of blueberry juice, 60ml of pear or apple juice and 90ml of soda water.

Not a cocktail fan? No worries, grab your favourite lager, add a splash of green food colouring and join the party.

Ditch the Puffa Jackets and Boots

Spring fashion is finally upon us, and what better way to welcome the warmer weather than upgrading a few items in your wardrobe? Banish the chunky knits and hats for a few months and have a look online at Manchester’s independent retailers. It’s never been so important to support small businesses than right now, so go ahead and treat yourself. Some of our favourites are quirky Oklahoma in the Northern Quarter, danish beauty Kjole in Didsbury and lifestyle boutique Jacks Plot in Oldham.

Freedom

As of March 29th, we’re going to be able to make the most of the good weather and relaxing restrictions, and meet up to 6 people or 2 households, outside and in private gardens. Bring on the warmer days having picnics and BBQs with pals, sitting around the fire as the sunsets. Also, great news for any fitness fans, as loads of outdoor sports facilities will be reopening, such as open-air swimming pools, boot camps and tennis and basketball courts. Time to finally dust off those trainers and get back out there.

We think you’ll agree that there’s quite a lot to look forward to this spring, and we hope you enjoy the warm weather to come. Let us know what you get up to via social media – we love to see your apartment pics and selfies in our amazing city.
