1) IMAX Virtual Reality Centre
Where? Odeon Trafford Centre
When? Now open (Launched in November 2017)
How much? Between £7.50 and £10.00
Remember playing House of the Dead on a machine bigger than your fridge? Well, technology has evolved quite a bit since then. The launch of VR (virtual reality) has been a complete game changer in the industry. The geekiest of us may have tried the Oculus Rift, but the incredible VR equipment used at the IMAX Virtual Reality Centre (the first in Europe) is simply the Ferrari of its kind. Most experiences are multi-player and there is something for everyone to enjoy (from beginners to more experienced players).
2) Beer & Cider Festival
Where? Manchester Central
When? 25-27 January 2018
How much? £12.50 for talks and tastings, otherwise it’s £7.00-£10.00 (includes a £3.00 glass deposit)
For those of you who are already over dry January and pining for your first drink of the year, why not do it in style by attending Manchester’s Beer & Cider Festival? The festival offers over 700 beers and ciders across 22 bars, as well as some delicious food. There will also be a number of talks and tastings, from ‘Beer and Cheese – A marriage made in heaven?’ to ‘Beer from the Dark Side. An introduction to milds, porters and stouts’.
3) Chinese New Year
Where? Manchester city centre
When? 16-18 February 2018
How much? Free
In Manchester, Chinese New Year has always been celebrated in style, with beautiful displays such as the Illumination of Exchange Square and impressive parades drawing in the crowds. This year, expect even more of an extravagant celebration, with martial arts and dance displays, as well as a Lion and Unicorn visit to bless all businesses on Chinatown. The festivities will end with a much-anticipated firework finale.
4) Great Manchester 10K Run
Where? Manchester city centre
When? Sunday 20 May 2018
How much? £38.00 per entry
As one of our favourite events here at Manchester Apartments, we take part in the Great Manchester 10k Run every single year to raise money for charity. This year is going to be very special for all involved, as Sir Mo Farah will be joining thousands of runners to the finish line.
5) Greater Manchester Fringe
Where? Greater Manchester
When? 1-31 July 2018
How much? TBC
Manchester Fringe continues to get bigger and better since its launch in 2012. With great comedians and a wide variety of acts (from DJs to magicians), Fringe is certainly setting itself as a key competitor for the famous Edinburgh Fringe. Starting with only six venues around Manchester, the event has since grown to accommodate 26 venues all over Greater Manchester. The full programme will be revealed from 01 May 2018.
