Are you tired of being stuck in the city centre, feeling like you’re surrounded by constant hustle and bustle, and are just ready to retreat and reconnect with nature? Living in any city can leave us craving some green space, but if you know where to look, there are plenty of hidden gems right here on our doorstep that you can make the most of without having to travel into the wilderness. Here are some of our favourite spots.
Head down to the Ouseburn river, and you’ll find a tranquil, wooded valley that has tunnels, an incredible waterfall, and the iconic Pets Corner, perfect for anyone feeling like they’re losing touch with nature. This area is really popular with families and dog walkers, so you might even get to see some cute puppies as you get your fill of fresh air – if that isn’t a win, we don’t know what is.
If you head on down the river from the Quayside, you’ll head through some leafy pathways to find Ouseburn and Heaton Park. On your journey, you should stumble into Ouseburn Farm and see their vibrant street art, and explore the less-seen spots in this space. This is a perfect stroll for anyone looking to reconnect with nature and reduce a creative block, allowing you to get in touch with nature and reset any frustrations of city-centre living you may be having.
Situated right next to the Town Moor, this central city park has more to offer than you could ask for – including a boating lake, skatepark, plenty of open space, and a café to fuel up at to keep you exploring. This is our favourite place to head down for a picnic, do some people watching, and catch some rays with our pals to experience some inner peace.
If Exhibition Park doesn’t quite cut it, head down to Town Moor to explore their 1,000 acres of land. This is a great spot for joggers, or if you want to really embrace your childhood, bring a kite to fly. Depending on when you’re here, you might also get to catch The Hoppings fun-fair, which – clues in the name, is always a bit of fun.
Green space seems like a rarity within the city centre, but when you know where you look, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to get out and feel at one with nature. If you know of any other spots that you want to share with us, head on over to our socials and let us know.
