Your big move is fast approaching, and you're getting ready to go - but there are a few things that might catch you out on the day if you're not prepared. We want to make sure that you have the best possible move, so we've put together a few things to keep in mind to make life easier, so you can focus on your new home and not have to deal with any avoidable issues.
Moving is a big task, and sometimes it can be underestimated - but being prepared will help you avoid that. Start getting ready in the few weeks running up to your move, pack things that you don't use regularly so you've got a head start, and clean up as you go, too. One of the biggest issues renters face when moving out of a rental property and into somewhere new is not leaving their previous place clean, which can mean losing a chunk of your deposit.
We can tell you from first-hand experience, there's few things more frustrating on Moving Day than getting to your new place and realising that your furniture doesn't fit in the spot you wanted to put it. Measure in advance and make yourself a plan of where you want things to go, and know that it'll fit there. Pro tip: moving somewhere furnished will completely eradicate this problem, and mean you've got way less stuff to move in, too. Win-win in our books.
We've seen this one happen more times than we can count, and we promise you, every time it's an absolute nightmare for everyone involved. It can be tempting to try and ram all your things into as few bags and boxes as possible in the hopes of moving things in one trip, but it's almost guaranteed that it'll result in ripped bags, broken boxes, and a lot of your stuff all over the floor. Pack smart, make sure your boxes are sturdy, and avoid bin bags at all costs, you'll thank yourself for it later, we promise.
You can't really be over-prepared for a move, and we'd always recommend knowing exactly what the day is going to entail. There are some curveballs that you simply can't prepare for, but make sure that you know what time you're leaving, what time you can collect your keys - that you've booked some form of key collection, as this one will really derail your day if you don't - know how to get where you're going, find out where you can park to de-load, find out where the local shop is so you can grab some essentials for your first night. Moving is stressful, but preparing will help to make it a smoother day and avoid any issues that you don't have to face.
If you're getting ready to move, we wish you the best of luck - what are you doing to prepare yourself? We'd love to know. Head on over to our socials to share your tips with others.
