If you’re looking for the best places in the toon to take your Da out for Father’s Day, we’ve got you covered. Whether you’re after the best places to scran, want to have a couple of cheeky bevs – or, if you’re not into Father’s Day but want to do something over the weekend with other family or friends, we’ve got plenty of options for you.
We love a good slap-up dinner, and taking your Dad out for a meal is always going to be a winner.
If your old man is a fan of country pubs, hearty classics, and a tasty little seasonal dish, then The Badger is the place for you this Father’s Day. Choose between their stunning gardens during the day, or their crackling log fires later into the evening, so you can celebrate in style. They’re also offering a special 3-course menu for Father’s Day, which we know will be utterly delicious.
Not all Dad’s are looking to set fire to things, we know that – so if your Pops prefers the more refined vibe for an evening out, Leila Lilys is the place to go. An award-winning rosette bar situated on Grey Street, they offer the best afternoon tea that you can find in Newcastle, and are the perfect host if you’re looking for a higher-end experience with your Dad.
Look, we love the classy vibe like Leila’s above, but the fact is you simply can’t beat a good old hog roast. Blackfriars have got us covered this Father’s Day, hosting in their Cloiser Garden a full hog roast, with sharing planks of seasonal starters ahead of the main event, the hog roast, served in front of a fire pit. We’re drooling already – sorry veggies, we promise that there’s plenty out there for you too, but you might want to swerve this one.
If you want to raise a glass to your Dad in style, these are some of the best places that you can find to show him just how much he means to you.
Is Dad a fan of a local Geordie brew? Firebrick Brewery is going to be right up his street. This is a small independent brewery in the Geordie heartlands, with a space in Grainger Market. You can pop by and sample a huge variety of craft beers that they have on offer. If you catch them at the right time, they also offer local freshly baked bread too – and when we tell you it’s some of the best bread we’ve tried, we mean it.
If you and your Dad are sports fans, then The Ware rooms is the place for you this Father’s Day weekend. It’s a stylish, roomy bar with industrial décor which gives the place a really unique, enjoyable atmosphere, and they have plenty behind the bar for you to try. The England v Serbia Euros game is on Father’s Day too, so you can sit back, relax, and (hopefully) watch England win their first game in the Euros. Come on you Lions!
Are you looking for somewhere a little off-the-radar to surprise your Dad with? The Exchange is the perfect spot, a hidden bar on Northumberland Street. They’ve got happy hours running from 4-6pm Sunday-Friday, so you can get some great deals on your drinks, and there’s plenty to choose from on their extensive menu. They’re also more than happy to mix you something off the menu here, so if there’s any weird and wonderful combos you’ve wanted to try, this is the place to do it.
We know that not everyone celebrates, but you shouldn’t have to feel left out because of that. Newcastle has so much to offer, you can guarantee that there’s plenty out there for you to enjoy no matter what.
We can only speak for ourselves, but we can’t see many people taking their Dad out to see Doja Cat – which means there’s plenty of space for us to go instead. Doja Cat is bringing The Scarlett Tour to the toon, and we can’t wait for her to Paint The Town Red. Tickets are still available, so if you’re keen, this is your chance to secure them.
We’ve already mentioned that the first England game of the Euros is being played, so if you’re a football fan, this is a no-brainer. Head down to NX Newcastle to watch the game, surrounded by other fans and some of the biggest screens the toon has to offer. There’s also going to be some pre- and post-game entertainment, so no matter the score, you’re in for a good time.
No matter what you’re up to over the Father’s Day weekend, we hope that you have a great time – and if you get up to anything we’ve mentioned, we’d love to see. Tag us on our socials!
