January is here, Christmas feels like it was months ago, and the weather is absolutely miserable. No wonder Blue Monday hits us hard, eh? However, this year, we’ve made it our mission to beat Blue Monday and help as many people do the same. We’ve picked 3 top options to keep it at bay and focus on making the most of the New Year. Come along with us to do the same.
We hear you, it’s JUST been Christmas, which hopefully meant lots of indulging in good food, drink, and company – and maybe a few fab presents from the big red guy – but let’s be honest. We always deserve a treat. We’re not talking about breaking the bank and going hardcore, but sometimes just going out for a cheeky dinner with your favourite person, or popping into a local café for a coffee and a sweet treat is enough to lift your spirits and get you back on that good road to start 2025 with a bang.
We’re eyeing up the Quayside Market, and Pink Lane Bakery to take the edge off a long month and to keep us feeling our best self throughout the cold weather. Nothing like a delicious hot chocolate and a cheeky almond croissant to perk us up and get us rearing to go.
2) Get Out And About
We’ve said it before and we will stick to it – if you’re feeling down, cooped up, and don’t know what to do with yourself, some fresh air does the world of good to clear our minds and get us back to feeling good. Newcastle is an absolutely stunning city to explore anyway, but getting in touch with nature is where we want to be – especially with the frosts, everywhere is even more beautiful than normal, and we don’t want to miss out on those views.
Catch us down at Jesmond Dean having a good mooch, or maybe over at Exhibition Park – bring hats and gloves, because this weather isn’t messing about, and maybe even a flask of something warm too to keep you going, but trust us, you’ll feel so much better after a good stroll.
Dry January who? We’re kidding of course, we’re all for a good detox, which is why we’ll be clinking mocktails and soft drinks for our toasts. Getting out for a drink with your pals is a great way to pick yourself up, and the perfect opportunity to remind yourself of all the things that you’re grateful for. Focussing on the good things makes it really difficult to be pulled down into the Blue Monday mood, so we reckon it’s the perfect time to get out with friends or family to appreciate the good things in life and reassure yourself that you’re doing just fine.
We’ll be exploring the menus at WC Bar, and then maybe heading over to Mother Mercy to enjoy the atmosphere and give ourselves a little lift on a day when we need it a bit more. Blue Monday, you lose this time.
How do you combat the January blues? We’d love to know. Tag us on socials to share your Blue Monday plans with us.
