There’s nothing worse than living somewhere that doesn’t feel like a home. Whether you’re a bit of a nester and love to have lots of things surrounding you, or you’re more of a minimalist queen (or king!) and go for that clean-cut but cosy look, we know how important it is to feel at home in your space. Here’s some of our top tips to help make your mark in your rental apartment without risking your deposit.
Whether you spend a lot of your time in the kitchen or prefer to be in and out, it’s important to make it a bit of you. No, we’re not talking about full renovations, but just a couple of additions that will make the room feel so much more welcoming.
Storage containers in a kitchen give the vibe of someone who has their life together – and trust us, we’re still working things out, but the containers really do make a difference. You can use glass jars for a more rustic feel, or go for typical plastic, whatever works for you. Pick up some fun colours and shapes of pasta or pulses to fill your jars and let them make a statement on your shelves.
Think peel-and-stick spotlights from Amazon, keeping things cheap and cheerful while letting your kitchen – quite literally – glow from this simple little update. You can get different colours depending on what you like and play about with using more or less to find your perfect balance. This is a great way to make your kitchen look much more inviting with almost no actual work involved.
Your bathroom should be a place of peace, where you go to soak off a long day and give yourself the pamper that you deserve. Think spa, but waaaay less pricey.
This is a great option for smaller bathrooms – a big mirror will give the illusion of more space. You can have fun with the frames depending on what style you like; we prefer a big, ornate style, but if you’re after a more simplistic vibe you can go for something more understated and it’ll still give the place the oomph that you’re looking for.
Extra storage is always a win, but in a bathroom you can really make it work for you. We’d go with a long ladder shelf where you can display all of your favourite products, maybe whack on a candle and some plants to bring some colour to the room, and you’ll be amazed what a difference it makes. It also means you’ve got more space to put things rather than pile it all in the shower, which is an extra win.
The bedroom is possibly the most fun room to update, as it’s where you’ll likely spend most of your time. It’s important to feel at ease here to make sure that you’re getting a good nights’ sleep, and as the first place you’ll see when you wake up in the morning, making sure that it’s a space that you love is even more important.
We cannot stress this enough – mood lighting will transform literally any space almost immediately, and it’s SO EASY to do. Whether you’re a fan of fairy lights, salt lamps, or LEDs so you can switch up the colours when you feel like it, adding new lighting to a room will instantly make it feel so much more cosy and comforting.
People don’t give enough credit to how much your bedding can express your personality. You can go bright, bold, extra throws and pillows to really make yourself a place to nest, or maybe you prefer something more subtle, a gentle muted style that you can delve into and relax. No matter your style, new bedding will give life to your bedroom and with so much to choose from, you’ll be able to find something perfect in no time.
