Here’s your official heads up — Father’s Day is fast approaching. (June 18th, in fact.)
We’re sure you’ve already got something special lined up for the big day (cough cough), but just in case you’re still looking for ways to celebrate with the main man himself, we’ve got you covered.
Check out our top picks for giving your dad the best day ever — whether he’s a foodie, football fan, or a bit of a comic book geek.
There aren’t many dads who’d turn down some canny scran washed down with a glass of something boozy, are there?
The good news is, whether your dad is partial to a juicy steak, or a just your classic Sunday roast, there’s a restaurant for everyone in the ‘toon. New here? Here are some of our dad-friendly favourites to get you started.
Kicking things off strong with an elite Sunday Lunch is Branches in Jesmond. Located on Osborne Road, Branches serve up truly mouth-watering scran — everything from fresh seafood linguine and spring vegetable risotto to a tender and juicy roasted lamb rump.
Also not to be overlooked is their lush dessert menu — anyone for Bourbon sticky toffee pudding?
Find out more and book your dad a table at Branches via their website.
We don’t know what it is, but dads just seem to love a steak. And where better to take the steak-lover in your life than self-professed Newcastle steak specialists Tomahawk Steak?
As the name probably suggests, this Quayside eatery is known for offering perfectly-cooked steaks alongside fresh seafood — but don’t let that fool you. Though steak’s the main event here, there are some drool-worthy starters that we’ve definitely got our eye on (we can’t stop thinking about the Parmo Croquettas).
Want to really get in your dad’s good books? Offer to treat him to one of Tomahawk’s Warrendale Wagyu steaks — he definitely won’t be disappointed!
You can bag your table and start eyeing up the menu on Tomahawk’s website.
Do you go out for a roast every year for Father’s Day? Or, perhaps your dad’s just not that much of a foodie? Whatever the reason, sometimes a sit-down meal just doesn’t cut it. If that’s the case, no sweat. Newcastle’s not short of fun activities — for dads and kids alike. Here are some of our favourites.
Whether your dad’s a proud member of the ‘Toon Army, or just a football fan in general, why not take in a bit of local history and treat him to a tour of St James’ Park?
Located in the heart of the city, St James’ Park has been Newcastle United’s home since 1892. This classic tour gives you a glimpse into Matchday at St James’, letting you walk down the famous tunnel, see where the manager delivers post-match press conferences, and more.
You can find out more info and book your tickets here.
Disclaimer: give this gift with caution (and definitely not to a Sunderland fan).
If your dad’s a self-confessed geek, we’ve got the perfect Father’s Day excursion for you: Newcastle Comic-Con.
This year, the ‘Con is hosted at St James’ Park on Father’s Day itself, and features guests like Chris Barrie (Red Dwarf, Brittas Empire, Tomb Raider) and Will Mellor (2 Pints, Hollyoaks, Broadchurch) — perfect, right? There will also be other gloriously geeky delights like a Star Wars Prop Display, retro gaming consoles, and Contract Professional Wrestling.
Tickets are £10 on the door from 11 AM - 5 PM, so be sure to get there on time to avoid disappointment! Alternatively, you can buy your tickets online here.
