One of our key focuses as a business is to act sustainably, ensuring that we’re working with the planet, not against it. We implement measures into our developments, but we also encourage our teams and our residents to go green where they can. Here are some of our top tips to live more sustainably without having to completely change your life.
Don’t get us wrong, we aren’t saying tomorrow that you should only buy free-range products with zero plastic packaging, but there are smaller changes that you can make that will feel much less dramatic while still contributing to a sustainable way of life.
We’ve started introducing a day or two a week of meat-free meals, but you can do this in any way you like. Remember, even making small changes will still make a difference, and one person can only do so much – if we all make a small change, the results are hugely impactful, and that’s what it’s all about.
We’re all aware that fast fashion isn’t great for sustainability. Typically, they are cheap products that have a shorter lifespan, so they end up in landfills sooner, and aren’t always the most ethical either, depending on where they’ve been made.
Again, we aren’t saying that you should never buy from a fast fashion retailer again – the cost of living is real, and if you need something at a lower price point, then this is the obvious choice. Our approach is to try to limit fast fashion purchases, and where possible, look for alternative options, whether that be charity hauls or Vinted scrolling.
This one can get overlooked a lot, but making changes to how you travel can contribute massively to a more sustainable lifestyle. Rather than a 5-minute drive to the local shop, consider walking to get your steps in and reduce your CO2 usage, or if you can, opt for public transport to get to and from your daily activities; this is a great option too.
This isn’t always feasible; we aren’t expecting you to start carrying out 3-hour walks instead of jumping in the car when you’re going about your day, but where you can make small changes, it all adds up.
There are loads of ways to make small changes to everyday life to be more sustainable, these are just a few of the ones we find easiest to act on. If you’re doing other things, we’d love to know – head over to our socials to let us know.
