There’s a chill in the air, the leaves are changing, and pumpkin spice is on every menu across Manchester. Yes, Autumn is here, and we cannot wait to throw ourselves into the new season. Whether you’re trying to ease your way away from the summer months or are ready to go full Halloween mode straight away, we’ve put together some of our favourite ways to embrace Autumn in the city.
Head down Oxford Road until you hit the Manchester Museum, which is hosting Wellbeing Wednesdays through September to November, offering low-cost events that focus on relaxing, self-care, and wellness activities.
Pop by on Wednesday, 8th October or Wednesday, 5th November to get involved in some therapeutic workshops that are themed around the Museum’s collections. In October, the theme is Pumpkin Party, where materials will be provided for you to create a pumpkin garland, and in November, is about looking on the bright side of life, where you can create your own Optimistic Owl to motivate and bring some positivity to your day. With tickets less than £3, we’re signed up and ready to go.
If you’re down by Water Street in the Aviva Studios, you should check out the So Hong Kong pop-up markets. Held on 21st September from 10am til 4pm., this originally started in Bury Market and has expanded into Manchester.
With a variety of Hong Kong traders offering traditional street food, you’ll have your pick of mooncakes, mango sticky rice, and bubble teas. There will also be craft stands, including calligraphy, books, jewellery, candles, and soaps, as well as live music while you explore. There’s plenty on offer, and a great way to embrace the Autumn festival as well as Hong Kong culture.
Halloween will take over the city once again from 25th to 31st October, with several inflatable monsters taking over buildings in different locations. This makes for a fun stroll around the city trying to find each monster, especially at night when they’re glowing.
There will also be live performances, spooky DJ’s, the Walk the Plank monster procession, which is great fun for all the family across the 25th-26th October. Whether you’re looking to fill the day with events, or want to head out for an evening and get yourself a bite to eat in the city between the monster spotting, there’s plenty for you to get your Autumn mood on.
