Where to find the best cocktails (or mocktails) in Manchester

Did you know World Cocktail Day is coming up on Saturday May 13th? Though not technically a nationally recognised holiday (yet), we think it’s the perfect excuse to check out some of Manchester’s award-winning bars.

There’s a reason Manchester takes a spot (or three) on national Best Cocktail lists year after year — we Mancunians know how to mix a good drink. From talls to shorts, cosmos to caipirinhas, and low to no alcohol, there’s a cocktail in Manchester to suit everyone.

Spoilt for choice? Don’t know where to start? We get it. That’s why we’ve picked the best of the best, just for you. All you’ve got to do is try them!

The Black Friar

Nestled in the heart of Salford, The Black Friar isn’t just famous for its pub grub and Sunday roasts (though, we’ll admit, they are mega). This local favourite serves up some of the best classic cocktails in the city, with greats like Moscow mules and daiquiris all available. Oh, and the best part? If you don’t see your favourite cocktail on the menu, the bar staff will be happy to get it made for you.

So, what’s not to love? Top tip: if you fancy heading down to The Black Friar, don’t miss out and be sure to book a table on their website. Walk-ins are welcome, but be warned, this place gets pretty busy!

Schofield’s

If you haven’t heard of Schofield’s, where have you been hiding? Nabbing the #4 spot on the UK Top 50 Cocktail Bars List in 2022, this Little Quay Street haven is definitely not to be missed. Based in a stunning 1930s art deco building, this bar is known for classic cocktails made to an impeccable standard. Think Manhattans, Bloody Marys and Bellinis galore.

What are you waiting for? Schofield’s is open 12 PM - 1:30 AM Wednesday – Sunday, and walk-ins are more than welcome, so make sure you get there with enough time to grab a seat!

Find out more about this Manchester gem on their website or by visiting their Instagram @schofields.bar.

Three Little Words

Another one of Manchester’s bars to place on the UK Top 50 Cocktail Bars List, this Watson Street hangout takes cocktails seriously (no, really). With a bespoke menu of flavours that changes with the seasons, you’re bound to find a creation on their menu that you love.

Personally, we’re eyeing up the Rhubarb and Custard (gin, rose vermouth and, well, rhubarb and custard) but we’ll let you make up your own mind.

You can find out more, take a look at their extensive menu, and book your table on their website.

Low and No Alcohol

At Manchester Apartments, we know that you don’t need to drink to enjoy the fabulous nightlife this city has to offer. Here’s our top pick for our Mancunians that want their cocktails hangover-free.

Dirty Martini

Dirty Martini is a bonafide Manchester staple, with its Peter Street location regularly full to bursting every weekend. Don’t be fooled by the name, though, as this city centre spot has more than enough tasty low and no alcohol options for you to try.

How about the mouth-watering virgin Cherry and Bubblegum Margarita? Or the Strawberry and Rhubarb Gimlet? Whatever takes your fancy, there’s sure to be something to satisfy your mocktail cravings at Dirty Martini.
