Top 5 Interior Design Trends for 2018

There’s a lot going on in the design world this year. The latest interior design trends demonstrate a move away from minimalism and Scandinavian chic, which have reigned supreme for years, to something a little more dramatic.

Bold is back, with the bright colours and textures of maximalism emerging into the spotlight. House plants, tropical prints and positive, uplifting tones are also gaining popularity, reflecting our growing interest in health and wellbeing.

At Manchester Apartments, we use sustainable features and bespoke furnishings to create stylish, modern spaces for you to call home. There are also plenty of ways you can decorate your apartment to add your own personality. We’ve consulted our in-house interior design team to compile our top five interior design trends for 2018.

1 - Colours

Minimalism will never really be out of fashion, but maximalism is well and truly here to stay. Bright colours are one of the biggest interior design trends this year – any colour goes, so long as it’s bold. Often, just a splash of colour – a fuchsia cushion or vibrant wall hanging – can sometimes be all that’s needed to add the finishing touch to a room.

2 - Textures

Of all the interior design trends in 2018, adding textures to your home is probably one of the easiest. Textures add interest and can give a wholesome, natural feel to furnishings. Wicker and rattan are the materials of choice here, but feel free to play around and don’t shy away from combining different textures. Macramé is also a good way to get this look with minimal effort. Relatively inexpensive and widely available on sites such as Etsy, it is ideal for adding the finishing touch to your living area.

3 - Marble

Marble is often associated with lavish décor, and certainly the current ‘spa bathroom’ trend has caught everyone’s attention. Marble accessories such as vases, bowls and candle holders are a great way to achieve elegant, minimalist chic without overdoing it. We love the marble trays at Oliver Bonas.

4 - Tropical

The trend for all things tropical shows no sign of abating. Palm leaves adorned everything from prints to phone cases in 2016. This year, the craze is moving towards darker greens and richer hues. If you’re worried of looking a bit too ‘Club Tropicana’, keep things simple with a floral print –Desenio have some great ones.

5 - Metallics

Move over copper. This year’s metallics of the moment are brass and nickel. Similar to copper but with a more rustic feel, these ‘industrial’ metallics are perfect for adding a touch of luxury to a room. Brass and nickel also help to create a polished yet ‘urban’ aesthetic, so they’re ideal for stylish city centre apartments. Pair with green or pink textiles for tonal harmony. Wayfair has a wide selection of soft furnishings to suit every budget.
