We might not have had the summer that we wanted, but Autumn is about to kick in, and we can’t wait to celebrate. The Autumnal Equinox is the start of new season, and it’s a perfect time to have a reset and introduce some self-care and self-growth as we approach the end of the year. We’ve picked out a few options on ways we like to spend the Equinox – have a look and see what inspires you.
We’re all guilty of it sometimes, dwelling on the past and how we’d like to change things, but the facts are that we cannot change the past – we can only make changes for the future. Starting to look forward and focussing on the things within your control is important, and once you start you can see just how much of a difference you can make.
There are several ways that you can do this, depending on what works for you. We like to dedicate 10 minutes each morning to a quick meditation session – yes, we know that this can sound a bit whacky to some people but give it a chance. It can be as simple as you want it to be, and if you’re not sure where to start, there’s plenty of helpful apps online for free that you can download and use as a guide. Those 10 minutes a day make a huge impact for us, and we bet that if you give it a go, you’ll be surprised. What better time to start a new positive habit than the Autumn Equinox?
You’ve probably heard this one before, but it’s a mantra that we live by. If your home is starting to get cluttered or disorganised, it’s only a matter of time until that starts to reflect in your mind. Don’t get us wrong, we aren’t saying that your home needs to look perfect at all times, but if you’ve got some surfaces that end up being covered in bits that don’t belong there, or your bathroom is due a good scrub, now is the time to refresh your space and get it in order. It’s worth it, trust us.
If you struggle to keep on top of household chores, we get it, we’ve all been there. Just remember, doing something, no matter how small, is better than doing nothing – so break down your chores into smaller chunks, and make yourself a list. If you can tick off a few things each day, it won’t take long to see the progress, and we promise that it will have a positive impact.
Some people will turn their noses up at what they think are cheesy traditions, but these traditions have been in place for years and for good reason. If you’re not sure what the typical traditions of the Autumn Equinox are, don’t you worry – we do.
Two of the most popular traditions are to watch the sunset – the idea being that you’re saying goodbye to the current season and moving into a fresh one, with a new perspective. This can be a really soothing activity, but it’s also something we should all do at least once – watch the sun rise, and see the sun set. Another popular tradition is to cook a nourishing, homecooked meal – think soups, stews, anything homey and warming. It’s a good way to use up vegetables as the seasons change, and there’s nothing quite like a warm, cosy meal to soothe the soul.
