If you’re looking to get your scare on this Halloween, you’ve come to the right place. Manchester is overflowing with terrifying options, so we’ve picked out our top 4. Read on if you think you’re brave enough to handle them!
Hosted at the Odeon Great Northern on 3-6 October, Manchester’s biggest genre and horror film festival is back – featuring some special guests, premieres, Q&A’s, and a mix of horror, thriller, sci-fi, and dark comedy. If you’re more into screen horror, we highly recommend this one – the premieres especially are incredibly exciting and gives you the chance to be the first to see exclusive footage.
This one isn’t for the faint-hearted – head on over Camelot Abandoned Theme Park, Chorley, from 4th October-3rd November. Last year, this event won the award of the Best Scare Attraction of 2023, and they’ve gone all-out this year to keep that title. With 10 rooms to make your way through, they won’t make it easy, filled with cannibals, zombies, murderous clowns, and anything else you can imagine would terrify you. We’re already freaked out just talking about it.
Time to visit Diecast, nestled behind Piccadilly Station – inspired by Scare City, but much closer to home, and also featuring extra entertainment including mystics, tarot readers, fortune tellers, dark artists, alongside the food halls, where you can fuel up after your terrifying fight through the nightmares. As a smaller set-up, if you’re not sure how you feel about the scare attractions, we’d recommend starting here and seeing how you find it. While this is no less scary, there are only two sections compared to Scare City’s ten, so consider it a warm-up before you go into the big stuff.
The Silence of the Baths: Back from the Dead
It isn’t all about blood, guts, and terror - on 26th October, Victoria Baths are bringing back 3 of Manchester’s legendary nightclubs for a silent disco, with an insane DJ lineup. If you’re not quite ready for a bloody torture-fest this weekend, this might be right up your street instead. The theme will still be Halloween, so get your best costumes together and bust out your dance moves, this is sure to be a night you won’t forget.
