Where to be-gin with celebrating world gin day in Manchester

As it was world gin day earlier this month, we thought we’d take the opportunity to discuss the nations favourite spirit in more depth, so we wanted to give a shout out to some great Manchester based distilleries, as well as tell you hot spots across the city where you can enjoy a glass of juniper juice (otherwise known as gin!) this summer.

Sis4ers Distillery, Salford Quays

Not only does this distillery make gorgeous drinks, but they also have an amazing backstory. As the company name suggests they really are a team of 4 sisters, and not only that, their 7 brothers are also in the drinks business, running 7 Brothers Brewing Company! This makes them the largest family of direct siblings in the global alcohol industry, and even better, they’re Mancs. Cool huh? Some of the usual amazing events they offer are postponed for now, but their tours are still bookable, and we highly recommend their afternoon tea with gin. We also heard a whisper they may start producing vodka too, so watch this space.

Manchester Gin, Deansgate

These guys run the recently opened immersive distillery, bar, restaurant hybrid under the railway arches of central Manchester, and are actually a couple that first bonded over their love of gin! This spot is perfect to learn about the art of distilling, see it in action, understand how to personalise drinks, and of course try some of the good stuff. In addition, there’s even the option to buy a ‘make your own gin’ session - the perfect gift for a lover of the spirit. Alternatively, why not grab a bottle from one of the numerous city-based stockists? We recommend the Hacienda, which celebrates Manchester’s infamous music scene with zingy notes of lemon and lime.

So, now that you know where you can visit to understand more about the process of creating this delicious drink, we’ll move on to namechecking some of our city’s finest pubs, bars, and restaurants where you can sit back and sip away. Whether it’s a gin sling, gin and juice, or a classic g & t, we’ve got you covered.

Allotment

Our first choice for sure is Allotment, found in the Northern Quarter. The bartenders here are seriously talented, so if none of the options from the extensive gin menu appeal to you, why not ask them to whip up something bespoke based on flavours you like? They have been known to create lemon drizzle and birthday cake flavoured cocktails, so we’re sure you’re in safe hands!

Behind Closed Doors

As the name suggests, this low lit, vintage vibe secret bar is stacked with speciality spirits. Hosting vinyl DJs over the weekend and playing the best of funky soul the rest of the time, a good night is pretty much guaranteed. Book a booth and enjoy a direct hotline to your bartender, did someone say boogie?!

Impossible

Home to what they’ve nicknamed the ‘Gin Nest’, we couldn’t leave this place out. The menu does not disappoint, with over 84 gins from around the world available, so you won’t struggle to find a few blends you love. In a genius move they are also serving up frozen cocktails over the summer, so why not head to the nest after a hard days graft?

As usual, if you take us up on any of our top-shelf recommendations then please share photographic evidence with us via our socials. If it’s not on Instagram it didn’t happen, right? And if there are any great spots we’ve missed why not share those as well so we can include them in future posts.
