With the cost-of-living crisis hitting those already struggling the hardest, this winter we decided to partner up with Lifeshare, a Manchester based charity helping those most vulnerable, by collecting a range of items they are most in need of to help those in our local community.
Established in 1984, Lifeshare is Manchester’s oldest charity supporting homeless and vulnerable people around the city. The charity started by providing rough sleepers with food and has since evolved to tackle more complex issues such as drug and sexual health support. Their mission is split into three objectives: To identify street homelessness and offer support such as emergency accommodation, to assist people with access to healthcare, and to lessen the hardships of poverty by providing those most in need with relevant resources.
To show our support to the cause, we set up 3 collection points around our offices and the Westpoint building, calling for all Manchester Apartments staff and tenants to donate warm clothes, perishable food, and toiletries. The collection points were up for the whole month of November, and we saw a very positive response from our staff and especially our tenants.
As a result, we collected 12 boxes of clothes and 3 boxes of food which we donated to Lifeshare yesterday afternoon, just in time for the winter months. We are extremely thankful to all those who donated and honoured to have been able to support such an inspiring charity.
