Last year Mothering Sunday managed to escape the clutches of our first national lockdown, although for this year that’s not the case.
Whether you live with your Mum or haven’t seen her in a while, she definitely deserves to be celebrated. We’ve done the hard graft for you and come up with a few suggestions to ensure she has a memorable day, even if your options for spoiling her are limited. All you need to remember here are the three failsafe F’s: family time, flowers and fakeaways.
Family Time
If you’re living at home right now then you might have spent a lot of time with your family recently, but we’re guessing your Mum is pretty great, so just grin and bear it for the day. Why not revisit your childhood and play some board games together for a guaranteed laugh? If you’re looking for recommendations; Scrabble, Monopoly, and Trivial Pursuit are bound to get everyone involved. Just try to avoid the equally predictable sibling squabbles about cheating!
If getting outside is more your thing and your Mum is in your support bubble, then keep it local and pay Fletcher Moss Park a visit. The park is nestled in leafy Didsbury and is open daily, so why not grab a coffee from the on-site café whilst you catch up and stroll the rainforest-like area? The ornamental trees, rare bird song and eagle sculpture situated at the entrance to Parsonage Gardens make this park a super chilled way to spend some time with your mum. Perfect for a sunny Sunday morning.
Flowers
An oldie but a goodie. Flowers always bring a smile and are a great option if you and your Mum don’t live too close by, as they can be delivered to your door! Manchester is brimming with fantastic florists so here’s a couple that we know and love.
Northern Flower is a super friendly independent florist on Tib Street in the Northern Quarter. The team may be small, but they’ve been open for almost 20 years, so it’s fair to say they know their stuff.
The Flower Lounge in Didsbury is an equally great option, and with numerous awards under their belt, this lot mean business. If you’re not so confident in what you’re asking for, these guys also can offer flower subscriptions or gift vouchers.
Fakeaways
Missing your favourite restaurants and bars? You and us both. However, some of Manchester’s finest eateries have stepped up to the plate this pandemic and have got you covered for a top Mother’s Day meal.
Rudy’s has Pizzerias all across the city, and if you haven’t tried them, we cannot recommend them enough. Until we can once again sit inside the restaurants, why not give your Mum a slice of Italy this Mother’s Day with Rudy’s ‘Bake at Home’ menu! Choose from individual favourites like the Portobello or Calabrese Pizzas, or give your family the ultimate feast with one of the ‘Night in with Rudy’s’ boxes. Featuring four pizzas, prosecco, beer and cocktails, what can go wrong?
Finally, to recreate the restaurant at home vibe, why not order from the local meat maestro, Hawksmoor. This can be a spendy choice, but we promise you it’ll be worth every penny. Whether you enjoy it with the special lady in your life or have to join in via FaceTime, your Mum will be talking about this steak for months to come. Major favourite child points up for grabs on this one!
Whatever you decide to do this Mother’s Day, from all of us at Manchester Apartments, we hope you have a great day and be sure to tag us in your Mother’s Day selfies!
