Utilise Free Travel

A lot of us forget about the free bus option around the city, and end up just ordering a quick Uber to get from Piccadilly to Deansgate when it’s cold and we don’t fancy the walk. This might only be a fiver here and there, but if you’re doing it regularly between work and home, or each weekend when you’re out and about, it adds up fast.

Making the most of the free buses will save you here and there, but over time you’ll see a difference – we recommend each time you would book an Uber but get on the free bus, stick the amount you would have paid into a savings account and watch it grow.

Bills Included Living

Especially if you’re moving to a new city, a lot of new renters forget to factor bills into their budget, which could end up being catastrophic once you’re moved in and receive that first charge. Gas and/or electric, water, WIFI, council tax if you’re liable, and insurance add up fast, and if you don’t know what these cost, it’s hard to account for.

Moving into somewhere that has bills included means not only do you not need to worry about the extra cost as it’s rolled into one, but you also don’t have to go through the hassle of setting it all up, so you save time as well as money.

Go Second-hand

There are multiple benefits to buying second-hand, the two big ones being that it’s typically much cheaper, and it’s more sustainable too. Whether you’re looking for a new wardrobe, Vinted is full of great finds at lower prices, or if you’re after furniture and you hit up one of the used furniture shops in the city, there’s plenty of choice.

You can also try Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree, so there’s a variety of sites that you can scour to find the perfect piece – a lot of these places will be open to bartering too, so you have the potential to save even more.
