Whether you've got friends and family to support you, or you're going down the route of hiring professionals to get you moved, make sure that you get this organised as soon as you have your confirmed moving date. It's not an easy task to take on alone, and leaving it til the last minute runs the risk of people being busy and unable to move their plans to help out. Professional movers often book up quickly too, so make sure to call around and see what sort of notice they need to be able to get you booked in.

Label Boxes Clearly

We find that wherever possible, it's best to label boxes as the room their items belong in. This way, when you're moving, you can have all kitchen-related boxes in that room, all bedroom-related items there, so you don't have to move your boxes around twice; once to get them into your new place, and once when you've opened them to see what's inside.

Photos, Photos, Photos

Trust us when we say that you cannot take too many photos, whether you're moving out of a rental place and into somewhere new, or moving for the first time. Documenting the property as you left it will help as evidence to get your full deposit back if there are any unfair disputes, and taking them in your new place will come into favour when the time comes to leave. Think scrapes on the walls, any chips on the kitchen side, or stains in the bathroom - if they were there before you moved in, they aren't your responsibility and you don't want to be charged for them down the line.

Pack Smart - No Bin Bags

Packing smart might sound like an obvious one, but you'd be surprised how often it can be an issue. We'd recommend using suitcases and sturdy cardboard boxes for everything in your move, and to avoid bin bags at all costs. They can seem like a quick win for moving clothes or other soft items, but they're quick to tear and they can also end up making your clothes smell, resulting in more work when you need to wash everything. Go for sturdy options, and you'll thank yourself.

Keep Essentials Handy

Moving is a big job, and it can often take a couple of days to get fully unpacked and settled into your new place. On the morning of your move, put aside a backpack that has all essential items in it - your ID, your phone charger, some toiletries, a spare change of clothes, etc. That way, when you get to your first evening in your new home, you don't need to go digging through boxes to find your toothbrush - you know exactly where it is.

These five tips will help to make your moving day as smooth as possible - if you've moved recently, what tips would you share with someone getting ready for their big day? Head over to our socials to share.
