Food and drink

They say the way to a man’s heart is through his belly, and based off our experience, they’re not too far off the mark. If your dad’s a whiskey connoisseur, or just considers himself a bit of a foodie, we’ve got him covered with our favourite spots for some mouth-watering food and drink.

Hawksmoor

Where better to take the big guy himself than the self-professed ‘Best Steakhouse in Manchester’? Serving up some of Manchester’s juiciest steak and seafood from an old Victorian courthouse in Deansgate, the Manchester branch of this award-winning restaurant is definitely not to be missed.

Expect culinary delights like charcoal-grilled South Coast monkfish, and chilli, lemon, and garlic roasted sea bream alongside old favourites like hamburgers and herb-fed chicken. And, of course, at Hawksmoor, the steak’s the main event. Here, your dad can pick the cut, the sauce, the colour, and select luxurious extras like grilled bone marrow. What’s not to love?

The Whiskey Jar

For those dads who love a glass of something old-fashioned, The Whiskey Jar is just the spot. Located in a historic old textile mill, this Northern Quarter gem is perfect for something a bit more, well, cool this Father’s Day.

The bar is spread out over two floors and offers live music alongside their extensive whiskey menu. Whiskey not quite your thing? No stress — you can enjoy a cocktail or a beer while your dad’s in whiskey heaven.

Top tip: if your dad’s a true whiskey obsessive, keep an eye on The Whiskey Jar’s website for festivals and tasting events coming up.

Something different

If you’ve been for Sunday Lunch every Father’s Day for the past few years, it might be getting a little old. If this is the case, check out our favourite dad-friendly activities (with a twist) in Manchester (you can thank us later).

Point Blank Shooting Manchester

Picture this: classic grub like pizzas, hot dogs, and wings, delicious cocktails, and… a shooting range?

Okay, we weren’t sure either at first, but Manchester’s Point Blank Shooting Range seems to have found a target audience (pardon the pun) among dads, lads, and, anyone else wanting a day out with a difference.

So, why not let your dad play sniper in ‘the UK’s first and only simulated shooting range’ this Father’s Day?
