As we approach the aptly named most wonderful time of the year, we know that you’ve likely been roped into your work’s and/or mates secret Santa celebrations… And what’s not to love? Buying gifts for your workmates or friends is the perfect excuse to head out into Manchester, buy yourself the most festive hot drink you can find, and wander through the city’s most famous independents (and even treat yourself whilst you’re at it!). As usual, we’ve put together a list of our favourite independent stores across Manchester that ensure that whatever your budget, or whoever you’re buying for, you’ll find something fantastic.
Curated Makers Market- Inside Next, Arndale
Curated Makers are a collaborative organisation who are passionate about championing local creatives. Predominantly known for their short-term pop-ups, these guys are currently in-house at Next in the Arndale and will be until Christmas. They sell a whole host of products including jewellery, prints, and candles. Why not support some super talented people and bag a super unique gift while you’re at it?
A family business that has been at the heart of Manchester since 1965, this is a great place to find something special, and sustainable, for your secret Santa. We guarantee you’ll enjoy perusing their rows of shelves, and they even have titles to cover every interest (including a few vintage comics!) meaning you can pick up a really thoughtful present without breaking the bank.
Infamous with Manc locals, this Northern Quarter-based ‘emporium of eclecticism’ is an easy choice when searching for gift options, as it is home to numerous different businesses. Whether you’re looking for vintage clothing, sweets, posters, or more, this is a great spot to tick off all of your Christmas shopping and definitely treat yourself too.
Manchester Craft and Design Centre
Also in the Northern Quarter, and in situ for over 40 years, is the Manchester Craft and Design Centre. Selling textiles, homeware, and accessories, this is the place to hit up if your secret Santa is into their interior décor. These guys are even throwing an official Christmas Launch on November 13th with free live music, workshops, mulled wine, and festive snacks, so you may as well enjoy yourself whilst picking up your Christmas essentials, right?
We’d love to hear about what gems you pick up from our recommendations, or if you’d like to shout out to any other great spots. As usual, you can find us on social media. Ho ho happy shopping!
