How to spend Valentine’s Day in Manchester

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. Whether you’re celebrating with the love of your life in a romantic restaurant or celebrating singledom in the local comedy club, Manchester has hundreds of options for everyone, whether you’re coupled up or not.

The obvious choice for a date night in Manchester would be dinner, here are some of the most romantic spots in the city:

Australasia

Whether it’s date number one, or one hundred and one, Australasia never fails to impress. Their grand glass pyramid entrance transports you down to one of Manchester’s most luxe restaurants. With white, uber-modern décor and a menu fit for royalty, Australasia is the perfect date night location regardless of the date.

The Ivy

The Ivy is one of Spinningfields’ finest restaurants and is a hangout spot for some of Manchester’s most well-known residents. The Brasserie is a great option for those wanting modern British classics, whilst The Ivy Asia and Bar is good option for those wanting to make more of a night of it. A show-stopping green, semi-precious stone floor covers the second floor of The Ivy, serving Asian-inspired cocktails and dishes, along with evening entertainment and resident DJ’s.

Bock Biere Cafe

Bøck Biere Cafe is a European café in the heart of Manchester, with Belgian beers & fondue being the main draws to this easy-going café. Their vast menu includes sharing boards, fondue and a great selection of beers and wine to soak it all up with. Their Sunday lunch is extremely popular, combining a traditional British roast with their great fondues. Psssst, we’ve got a competition to win a £30 voucher at Bøck Biere Café, so if you want to try out their fondue in time for Valentine’s day, head over to our Instagram and check it out before it’s too late!

20 Stories

We had to include 20 Stories on our list, as their decadent interiors and lavish food and drink menus are the perfect example of prime Valentine’s Day date. Their grand outdoor terrace which stands 20 stories above the ground, is the perfect setting for a romantic meal or drink overlooking Manchester’s skyline of the city.

If you’ve got first-date nerves, or want to try something a little different, then these Valentine’s Day events and activities in Manchester may be more appealing to you:

Junk Yard Golf

Junk Yard Golf recently relocated to First Street and is a great place to head if you want some fun this Valentine’s Day. Three crazy golf courses are inside the venue, each with a different theme and decorations.

Dog Bowl

Dog bowl is another option for couples who don’t want to stay sat down. Located beneath Oxford Road train station, Dog Bowl is one of Manchester’s best bowling alleys. Order a couple of their signature cocktails and let your competitive side come out this Valentine’s Day!

Whistle Punks Urban Axe Throwing

Yes, we’re aware this one is a wildcard, but hear us out. Release all of your tension and anger (hopefully not caused by your date) by heading down to Urban Axe Throwing! Located within the Great Northern, you’ll learn how to throw axes, in a safe and fun way, then you’ll head into the throwing area and compete with your date to see who has the best throw – definitely a date you won’t forget…

Want to soak up the love around Manchester for free? Here are all of the wonderful things happening around the city:

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, Spinningfields’ Hardman Square is getting a makeover. The Oasis lyrics, “You’re my Wonderwall” will be displayed on a stunning neon light in the square. The Instagram hot spot is expected to see many visitors this week, so be sure to take a snap if you’re passing by.

You will also find the giant ‘With Love’ heart in the square, designed by French Artist Franck Pelletier. Previously seen in Singapore and France, the giant heart will take Manchester’s pulse, by measuring the light, temperature and atmospheric pressure of the city, which is then converted into flashing lights from the heart. It is hoped to radiate joy to passers-by with a surprise love song, which harmonises with the rhythm of your heart when the sensor is pressed.
