You heard it here first everyone — Manchester’s the place to be this Pancake Day. From vegan and veggie to gluten-free options, Manchester’s pancakes are flippin’ great. So, whether you’re a pancake expert or you don’t know your crêpe from your souffle, never fear. We’ve done the hard work for you and compiled a list of the best places to satisfy your sugar cravings this Pancake Day, so all you have to do is pick which ones you’d like to try.

Or sample them all…we won’t judge.

Think pancakes are a bit crêpe (wink wink)? Don’t worry, we’ve got some tasty alternatives for you in this list too.

For traditional pancakes

Classics are classics for a reason, and if you’re looking for a traditional fluffy stack, then look no further. Here’s our top three picks for conventional pancake lovers this year.

The Shack

Fluffy, light, and smothered with lashings of maple syrup, The Shack’s OG pancakes are the things of dreams. Served American style with bacon, these crispy pancakes are a no-brainer.

Don’t think bacon belongs on pancakes? We’ll agree to disagree, but you’re in luck – The Shack’s tasty pancakes also come with sweet toppings like strawberries, cream, blueberry compote, and honey, and you can find them on Northern Quarter’s High Street this February 21st. What could be batter?

19 Café Bar

Serving Instagram-worthy treats out of 19 Lever Street, this self-professed ‘best brunch in Manchester’ certainly doesn’t disappoint, with pancakes served fresh-out-of-the-pan as a light, three-pancake stack, and six mouth-watering flavour combos to choose from.

Our favourite is easily the Kinder Pancakes. Picture this: chocolate hazelnut sauce, kinder bueno, roasted hazelnuts, and vanilla ice cream. Bliss, right? We haven’t even told you the best bit – you can add extra toppings to make your stack as indulgent as you like. We’re sold, what about you?

Ezra and Gil

If you’re a Manchester local, then you don’t need us to tell you that Ezra and Gill’s pancakes are something special. At this Hilton Street café, there’s truly something for everyone, with a menu catering to sugar fiends and savoury fans alike. Highlights include Biscoff and banana (drool) and goat’s cheese and mushroom (yum), so what are you waiting for?

Personally, we’d recommend the smoked salmon and avocado stack, but we’ll let you decide.

Vegan-friendly

Good news, plant-based pancake lovers! There’s no need to miss out on the ‘cakes of your dreams this Pancake Day — there are plenty of vegan eateries in Manchester offering their take on traditional recipes for you to sink your teeth into. Here’s our favourite…

Hampton and Vuis

HAMPTON & VOÚIS

Located on Princess Street, HAMPTON & VOÚIS’ menu is Mediterranean-inspired, and has options for strict vegans, vegetarians, and the gluten-free. So, whether you’re on a health kick or fancy something a bit more indulgent, there’s something on the menu for you.

We could talk about their menu all day, but this is a Pancake Day list after all, and their Jammie Dodger stack seems to be a firm favourite on socials, but we’ve got to admit, the Nutella and bourbon biscuit has definitely caught our eye too.

As an added bonus, HAMPTON & VOÚIS offers food and drink from local sources, so you can enjoy your brunch knowing you’re supporting Manchester’s small businesses. Oh, and don’t miss out — HAMPTON & VOÚIS operates on a walk-in basis only, so it’s first come first served (literally!).

Pancake alternatives

Think pancakes aren’t all that? We promise we’re not judging you (much). If you prefer your chocolate chips in cookies, or your biscuits dipped in tea, then here’s our favourite spot for something satisfying in Manchester.

Gooey Co

You’ve probably already heard about Gooey’s s’mores donut sandwiches, and if you haven’t, where have you been hiding?

Located at both Ducie Street Warehouse and on Manchester’s High Street, Gooey Co’s tasty treats are a delicious alternative to pancakes this February. But be quick — their bakes are known to fly off the shelves, so make sure you get there before they sell out!

Serving serious stacks like Kinderella, White Chocolate and Pistachio, and Cookies x Cream, Black Milk's menu changes weekly, so there's bound to be something for everyone. You can find them in their Northern Quarter cafe at 88 Oldham Street. Don't miss out!

Top tip: their opening hours are 10 AM-10 PM on Pancake Day, so you can definitely go back for seconds.
